Mitigation of Delayed Management Costs in Transaction-Oriented Systems

چکیده
+Suffolk University, Boston *TD Ameritrade Abstract Abundant examples of complex transactionoriented networks (TONs) can be found in a variety of disciplines, including information and communication technology, finances, commodity trading, and real estate. A transaction in a TON is executed as a sequence of subtransactions associated with the network nodes, and is committed if every subtransaction is committed. A subtransaction incurs a twofold overhead on the host node: the fixed transient operational cost and the cost of longterm management (e.g. archiving and support) that potentially grows exponentially with the transaction length. If the overall cost exceeds the node capacity, the node fails and all subtransaction incident to the node, and their parent distributed transactions, are aborted. A TON resilience can be measured in terms of either external workloads or intrinsic node fault rates that cause the TON to partially or fully choke. We demonstrate that under certain conditions, these two measures are equivalent. We further show that the exponential growth of the longterm management costs can be mitigated by adjusting the effective operational cost: in other words, that the future maintenance costs could be absorbed into the transient operational costs.

While many studies have been conducted regarding the analysis and risk assessment in the insurance, less attention has been paid to cognitive and objective aspects of uncertainty concept. The role of insurance companies to cover existing uncertainty in the framework of legal contracts can be crystallized. Thus, the measurement unit of dealing between insurer and insured is transaction. Imper...
متن کاملMultiperiod Portfolio Selection with Different Rates for Borrowing and Lending in Presence of Transaction Costs
Portfolio management is one of the most important areas of research in financial engineering. This paper is concerned with multi period decision problem for financial asset allocation when the rate of borrowing is greater than the rate of lending. Transaction costs as a source of concern for portfolio managers is also considered in this paper. The proposed method of this paper is formulated in ...
متن کاملA collusion mitigation scheme for reputation systems
Reputation management systems are in wide-spread use to regulate collaborations in cooperative systems. Collusion is one of the most destructive malicious behaviors in which colluders seek to affect a reputation management system in an unfair manner. Many reputation systems are vulnerable to collusion, and some model-specific mitigation methods are proposed to combat collusion. Detection of col...
متن کاملTransaction Management: Value Creation by Reducing Transaction Costs
In this era of globalization we see an increase in specialization: the production chain is split up in more and more parts and the production of these parts is outsourced to those places in the world where production is relatively the cheapest and most efficient. This implies that transaction costs, associated with the coordination of production and trade in parts and components, become increas...
متن کاملSmall Firms and Offshore Software Outsourcing: High Transaction Costs and Their Mitigation
It seems surprising that small firms engage in offshore outsourcing given that they lack the resources that large firms possess to overcome the difficulties involved. We examine these factors using transaction cost theory’s three stages: contact costs, contract costs, and control costs. Then, using our field data from small client firms (in the United States and the United Kingdom), intermediar...
